We all need a reason to wake up. We don’t wake up everyday expecting to die. Dying is a natural, essential part of life and part of the deal. To this, we are called to make space, adjust and grow. It can be really good to realise that there are forces larger than ourselves at play that can lead us to the ultimate end – death. For most people the scariest thing isn’t about being dead – it’s suffering the process of living and dying. But what about suffering? While the suffering itself cannot be controlled when we are alive, we can always affect how we die by choosing to be happy, mentally. A huge percentage of suffering arises from the mind, and not created by situations. When you are upset, you also begin to feel unhappy because the mind is telling you something negative about the situation. The mechanism of suffering remains the same, whether the pain is big or small. Observe what your mind is doing. If you become aware you will just accept the moment as it is without adding difficult thoughts to it. There’s nothing wrong with the situation as long as your mind tells you so.
